RIP Kevin Drum

It was clear it was on the horizon. Kevin, admirably, blogged his own demise. It went down slow. But, today, his wife, Marian, gave the final:

“With a heavy heart, I have to tell you that after a long battle with cancer my husband Kevin Drum passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025.

No public memorial services are planned.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity or political cause of your choice.

A Facebook page, ‘In Memory of Kevin Drum’, has been created as a place for friends and family to share memories of Kevin. I encourage you to post your thoughts and memories there.

Thank you to all the wonderful blog readers who supported, encouraged and challenged him through the years.

He will be greatly missed.

Marian”

The Internal Clocks Of Dogs

Dogs can tell time. Sometimes better than their attendant humans. How do they do that? They know when it is time for breakfast, they know when it is time for dinner. And they know exactly, like down to the minute, when it is time for their treats in between. Out here in the desert it is often daylight both when you get up and go to bed, so you need clocks and watches. Yet dogs have neither clocks nor watches, how do they always know what time it is?

Formula 1 Is Screwed Up; Denies Andretti

Formula One has denied the Team Andretti attempt to join the Circus. Until at least 2028, when they “might” consider it. How big, and ignorant, of them.

One of the stupidest positions ever by a worldwide league. F1 is now owned by Liberty Media and are relentlessly trying to glom on to fans in the US. So, why pull this nonsense as to a truly American team?

If this is how Liberty Media is going to run F1, it is hard to see how it all still exists in 2028. What a joke.

Okay, this is the initial post on the new blog of Casa de bmaz. You may have known me from nearly 18 years at, and with, Emptywheel. I was unceremoniously terminated from that post because Marcy said I was “undermining her journalism”. The basis was, by all appearances, that I very early on said Fani Willis was an ethically dubious prosecutor, and that the Fulton County case was mostly (not entirely) garbage. I was right about that. I also said the rando county citizen case in a rando local Colorado county court was garbage. I will, I think, be correct on that too.

Bottom line is, I was not “undermining Marcy’s journalism”, I was just saying what I thought. The problem is I would consistently say so, when Marcy thought something different. So, she demanded I lay off of Fani Willis. Which I did, I started speaking of only “Fulton County” instead. Then came the idiotic case filed by selectively planted private individuals in a local county court in Colorado that could, and would, skew the national Presidential election. I was then instructed to “take a break” for a while, but was instead just summarily excised from what I had done faithfully for over a quarter of my life.

Oh well, that’s the way it goes. I knew people, to the extent anybody ever comes here, would ask, so there it is. I wasted a quarter of my life supporting people (hi Rayne) apparently, but now I am here. I’ll always say what I think, and can now do so without false constraints about others people’s journalism.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting here.
